Northam, Christy 2016Christy Northam is vivacious, charming and warm. Widowed young when her husband, an American Airlines pilot, perished in a crash at 55, she continued to live in their large 4,500 sq. ft. home on a 3-acre lot on the water near Norfolk (VA) for another six years.

“Our youngest son was still in high school, and during that time I also took care of my ailing mother in California, so it would have been hard to move. However, this gave me time to really start thinking about what lifestyle I wanted, and I carefully  investigated a variety of options,” explains Mrs. Northam. “I knew that I did not want to take care of another large home anymore, with its ongoing maintenance and upkeep.”

Ultimately, she selected to move to Park Springs, especially because of its location. With one son in Grayson, one son in Peachtree City and a third son in North Carolina, she wanted to be relatively close to them and her four grandchildren. “I want to be there for all the good times,” she smiles. She moved to Park Springs in June 2013, and “…I plan to stay here well into my 100s!”

“My kids and grandchildren love to visit me at my ‘Park Springs penthouse in the trees’ and enjoy the pool or explore Stone Mountain Park, right next door. My Golf View Villa, with its 2 bedrooms and 2.5 baths, is large enough for a designated playroom, and I love being an active and involved grandmother.”

Mrs. Northam appreciates her carefree lifestyle. “The ability to just ‘lock and leave’ and get away for a weekend or a longer vacation without any worry is a true luxury,” she says.

Since she moved here, she has easily built a new community of friends – especially through on-campus activities. “Everybody here is very warm and accepting, and eager for you to join in,” she explains. “Mr. Himmel invited me to be in his annual show, and even though I had never before been on a stage, it has been a great experience. I also love the sculpture class – there is a great art studio to work in and we have access to superb teachers.”

A full, active life

Mrs. Northam is a trendsetter. Part of the fast-growing baby boomer generation, she decided that Park Springs offered her the opportunity to enjoy her life to the fullest.

“It’s liberating to live in Park Springs. I am so comfortable here. I am surrounded by lots of interesting people, friends who really care for each other, also during rough times. I feel encircled with love.

“We live in a beautiful, secure setting, in spacious, elegant homes close to all that Atlanta has to offer, from fine dining, museums, shows and of course, the world-class airport. At the same time, there are four different dining venues, beautiful walking trails, lots of social and educational events and fun activities right on campus – we’ve got the best of both worlds!” says Mrs. Northam.

“I am convinced that people who move to Park Springs live longer, happier lives. This community offers everything you need to live your best life. I am so glad to call this my home.”
