Memorial Day is so much more than a long weekend. As a time to reflect on our country’s history and the sacrifices that so many have made, Memorial Day is a tribute to the past, present and future brave men and women defending our rights. Two of those heroes, John Rausch and John Bullard, are Members of our own community, Park Springs.

Rausch and Bullard, both World War II veterans, were featured in a Neighbor Newspaper article about Memorial Day. The men bravely served our country, Rausch in the Army’s 102nd Infantry Division and Bullard as a paratrooper with the 11th Airborne Division.

According to Rausch, “Older generations have a lot more respect for the holiday. The younger generations don’t really have time to get involved, don’t seem like they want to be bothered with it.” Bullard adds, “It’s a significant day that exemplifies the sacrifices and courage of our nation… That’s what I try to tell my youngsters… be patriotic and support the nation.”
