Even though Mrs. Gerry Taylor had already moved more than 20 times during her lifetime, including overseas postings to Thailand and Germany, the move to Park Springs ten years ago required the biggest leap of faith.

“There was nothing here but forest, and all you could see of Park Springs were pictures,” notes Mrs. Taylor, who is by nature adventurous and energetic.

“I looked at a lot of different places when my house became too big after my divorce, and quickly learned that there was nothing like Park Springs – not anywhere in the greater Atlanta area, or even in the Southeast,” she recalls. “I was really impressed by the beautiful amenities that were being built here, and also understood the peace of mind that comes from the CCRC model. Here, the Members can have access to the exact level of care we need at particular points in our lives.”

Gerry TaylorMrs. Taylor, as one of the first original Members of Park Springs, was able to select just the right location for her new home, a two bedroom, two-and-a-half bath Villa not far from the Clubhouse. “I got a brand-new home on the ground floor, and love my porch, especially now that the landscaping has grown up all around us. The campus is so beautiful, and so well-maintained – I just love to walk the trails!”

Moving to her ground level Villa at Park Springs had another, completely unexpected consequence – she moved in right next door to Bud Taylor, an accomplished “Mr. FixIt,” who offered to help with hanging pictures – and the rest is history. The couple celebrated their wedding at Park Springs in 2007 with 160 of their friends and family, including a large number of their neighbors in the senior retirement community who threw wedding showers and even started rumors of a new addition to the family.

“Our two families blended together beautifully,” notes Mrs. Taylor, “it’s almost eerie when you compare pictures of our kids growing up, there are so many similarities.”

A two-time breast cancer survivor, Mrs. Taylor is hardly ever home. “We’re just out having a great time, all the time!” She likes the new Senior Zumba classes, and in addition, water aerobics and lots of walking keep her very fit.

She enjoys a lot of the different activities and events offered at Park Springs, and for years has volunteered at Cobblestone as a reader to Members in the Memory Care unit. “I loved doing that, and I also was able to see first-hand how excellent these facilities right on the Park Springs campus are,” she says. Her husband volunteers at the Park Springs Market and also loves to grow tomatoes, butterbeans and roses.

When asked what the nicest surprise about living at Park Springs was, Mrs. Taylor mentions the quality and variety of the food served here. “The menu is fantastic and changes every week. Chef Derrick Henry offers a great variety of dishes, including international cuisine,” something Mrs. Taylor really enjoys after traveling the world as an Ambassador with The Friendship Force to countries like Russia, Ghana and Vietnam.

“Knowing that my mother is so happy here at Park Springs is a great gift to us, her children,” says her daughter, Colleen Bittinger, RN at the Bone Marrow & Stem Cell Transplant Center at Winship Cancer Institute at Emory University.

“Here, she has found new love and has made lots of new friends; she’s hardly ever home! We also appreciate the different levels of care that are available, should she or her husband need it in the future. Their villa is beautiful, the grounds are spectacular, and above all, the staff here is so kind and professional. We are so happy she found Park Springs – and got in on the ground level!”
