On February 17, more than 80 people including Park Springs Members, staff, architects and builders celebrated the official groundbreaking for Pebblebrook at Park Springs, our luxury retirement community’s new healthcare center focused on skilled nursing and memory care.

Park Springs’ Executive Director Jim Schneeberger introduced the dignitaries in hard hats who wielded the ceremonial shovels on this bright and breezy day:

  • Andy Isakson, Managing Partner – Isakson Living
  • Kevin Isakson, Director of Sales – Isakson Living
  • Dave Wahn, Chief Financial Officer – Isakson Living
  • Brian Thomas, VP of Construction – Isakson Living

  • Donna Howson, Director of Nursing Cobblestone/Pebblebrook at Park Springs
  • Gene Harrison, President of the Park Springs Member Council
  • Bryce Jennings, Project Architect – Foley Design Associates

  • O’Neil Marriott, Maintenance Technician, Cobblestone at Park Springs

PB-A.-and-K.-Isakson,-B.-Thomas“This is a very important day for all of us at Park Springs,” Andy Isakson noted. “Pebblebrook at Park Springs will set new standards in the senior living industry, with its extensive use of natural light and outdoor spaces, and a welcoming design that respects the people who live here, the people who work here and all who visit.

“We have embraced the household model,” explained Isakson. “Each ‘neighorhood’ will have its own dining room with a country kitchen, a living room centered on a fireplace, and an activity area which will open into outdoor courtyards. Most importantly, consistent staffing in each neighborhood will create a family-like environment for both members and staff, where relationships can develop.”

Pam Cook, Administrator of Cobblestone/Pebblebrook at Park Springs, remarked on the thoughtful and innovative architecture and design of the new healthcare center. “However, what will be the most significant aspect of Pebblebrook at Park Springs is our wonderful staff. Our team is made up of some of the most dedicated, well-trained professionals you’ll find anywhere. We care for our Members and we care for each other. Ultimately, a beautiful building is just that – but it’s the people who will make Pebblebrook at Park Springs a grand success.”

Speaking of success, Brian Thomas, VP of Construction with Isakson Living, shared that Pebblebrook at Park Springs has already been recognized with a top industry honor earlier this year. At the 2016 International Builders’ Show in Las Vegas, Park Springs won the 2016 Best of 55+ Housing Gold Achievement Award for Pebblebrook at Park Springs, Best 55+ CCRC Community on the Books.

“We are honored and again want to thank the Staff, Members and families of Cobblestone for their integral input and feedback regarding Pebblebrook at Park Springs,” said Brian. “Many months before we even commissioned the drawings, we asked a lot of questions and did a lot of listening. ‘What can we do better? What do you want to see?’ So this award belongs to all of us – Members, their families, our staff and our building and design team. Everybody’s invaluable insights contributed to us winning the gold.”

Donna Howson, Director of Nursing at Cobblestone/Pebblebrook at Park Springs, added: “Our team of nurses and caregivers has been actively involved with the plans for Pebblebrook at Park Springs by sharing their professional observations and perspectives. Having such a carefully designed facility will help us to continue to attract the best trained and brightest key staff to provide the ultimate care.”

About Pebblebrook at Park Springs

Pebblebrook at Park Springs will be located on a 6.75 acre parcel adjacent to Park Springs’ Stone Mountain campus. It will offer a new Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) and Alzheimer’s Care (ALZ) community to replace those functions in Park Springs’ existing health center, Cobblestone. Cobblestone, in turn, will be converted to 100% assisted living suites for a total of 52 suites.

There will be two courtyards, on two different levels, to enjoy Georgia’s mild seasons in a lovely landscaped setting. Also, there will be a Lobby Café, something that is not very common in a healthcare setting.

Pebblebrook at Park Springs will feature three distinct components:

  • an 18-unit rehab Skilled Nursing Facility (SNF) adjacent to a state of the art physical therapy gym,
  • 36 long term care SNF private units divided into two neighborhoods
  • 36 ALZ private units divided into three neighborhoods, one of which is designed to accommodate Adult Day Care.

Memory Care at Pebblebrook at Park Springs

The floor below SNF will be a secure setting for dementia care (ALZ). Like it will be in the long term SNF, 36 private units are divided into three neighborhoods. Each neighborhood will have its own dining area with a country kitchen, living area with a fireplace, activity area and direct access to outdoor space in a secure private courtyard.

One of the ALZ neighborhoods is programmed to accommodate 6 members in Adult Day Care (ADC) mixed with higher functioning permanent dementia residents. Adult Day Care is a great service for couples where one spouse serves as a caregiver.

“Pebblebrook at Park Springs will offer the best possible memory care in Atlanta,” said Isakson, who was inspired to build Park Springs by his family’s search for a community to meet the needs of their parents, Ed and Julia Isakson.
