O’Neil Marriott: Surrounded by Family

O'Neil MarriottO’Neil Marriott is a lucky man. As he explains: “Working at Park Springs is such a joy – the Members are like family to me.”

Originally from Jamaica – via Boston, O’Neil, an all-round technician in the Maintenance Department, has been employed at Park Springs for almost six years. He started in the Housekeeping Department, and since then, he has encouraged some of his real-life family members to join him on the Park Springs team as well. Currently, his wife, father, brother and uncle all work behind the scenes in a number of different functions – each contributing to the smooth running of Park Springs, the luxury senior retirement community in Stone Mountain.

Eager to learn, O’Neil was mentored by the late Jim McKee, a Member at Park Springs who taught him everything he needed to know to run Park Springs’ audio room. “Mr. McKee took a liking to me and trained me so that I could get ahead in my job. He was always asking if I was ‘looking for trouble,’ but actually, I was looking to learn as much as I could from him. He was a good man and I loved the time I spent with him.”

This interest in furthering his education still drives O’Neil, who recently received his EPA license and will complete his Certified Pool Operator course shortly. “The Management at Park Springs encourages all employees to continue their studies, which is a great benefit to anyone working here,” says O’Neil, who admits to asking lots of questions about many different technical matters when working with outside suppliers. “That’s how I learn best – by asking questions and learning from the experts.”

“It makes me happy to make the Members happy, and they are so appreciative of our well-run campus,” according to O’Neil, who is ready to tackle any challenge. During the recent 2014 ice storm that paralyzed Atlanta, he delivered food and helped maintain the systems. “We all worked together and said to each other: Let’s get it done!”

He and his wife live with their children Alex (9) and Destiny Divine (5 months old) in Stone Mountain, and during a rare free moment, he likes to go fishing with his father at Black Shoals Lake in Conyers.

Thanks for your ongoing efforts on behalf of the Park Springs family, O’Neil!

O’Neil is so proud of his little 5 month old Destiny. He carries lots of pictures on his I Phone. She is a cutie for sure. O”Neil is never to busy to say hello and offer you his bright smile. A positive attitude goes along with both. We are so fortunate to have him as a valued employee at Park Springs.
