Who needs an uncomfortable uniform or bulky equipment to play sports? At Park Springs, the Atlanta retirement community, we believe you can enjoy many of life’s sporting events in a different sort of way. We are hosting the DeKalb County Senior Olympics Wii Bowling event in the clubhouse on May 19, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. There will be an opening ceremony for the Olympics on May 10, at Porter Sanford III Performing Arts & Community Center in Decatur.

There are many different sports that the our members are able to participate in. There are several sports that they can play on the Wii, inspired from one of our members, Floyd Fawcett, that learned from his grandchildren. He instituted a Wii bowling league on our campus two years ago for the Atlanta active adults living here at Park Springs. There is also going to be a water volleyball match on May 13, at the Lou Walker Senior Center in Lithonia. We hope we can capture the gold this year, last year our members received silver and bronze medals.

The DeKalb County Senior Olympics, founded in 1986 was designed to create awareness of the abilities and capabilities of Atlanta active adults. We believe that by participating in the Senior Olympics our members will maintain and improve health and wellness, while promoting an interest in sporting, recreation and physical activities. It can also provide a strong sense of accomplishment.
