The annual Park Springs Memorial Day Service was featured on Atlanta News First. The ceremony has been led by retired US Army Col. Les Carter since its inception in 2005.

Col. Carter attended West Point and retired after 30 years in the Army. He served two tours in Vietnam and was awarded the Silver Star for his leadership during the conflict. He sees this ceremony as doing his part to honor fallen servicemen and women, but it is hard not to think about the friends he lost as well.

“It is a part you will never forget. It is a part you don’t want to forget actually,” said veteran, Col. Les Carter.

The Park Springs Memorial Day service educates Members about the origins and importance of the national holiday and honors those who lost their life in service to our country.

Capt. Dennis Sloan attended the Naval Academy, dedicating 30 years of service on board two surface ships, six submarines, and three service schools.

“It is an opportunity to witness to your family and to others, what is important. What they sacrificed for our amenities and comfort,” said Sloan.
