Featured on America’s Commercial Real Estate Show, Andy Isakson, managing partner of Isakson Living, is quoted in the article “CREShow: Seniors Housing Appeal Grows for Investors.” According to the article, Michael Bull, the host of the show, and guests discussed the senior housing sector and its appeal to commercial real estate investors.
Due to its resilience throughout the recession and the upcoming influx of Baby Boomers to hit retirement age, the senior housing market is on the front lines for investors. The stability of the industry compared to other sectors has proven strong and, according to Isakson, “you’re seeing a lot more investors and institutions look at seniors housing than you had five years ago.” Chris Kazantis, an AEW Capital Management director, notes that “the sector’s properties have a current value of approximately $270 billion… [and it’s] a sector that’s growing tremendously.”
As the boomers begin to hit retirement age in record numbers, there will be a large need for senior housing, however, there may be differences in preferences between the generations, which could cause challenges for the facilities.
