28 May Coming In From the Coast: Why Coastal Georgia Residents Are Choosing Park Springs
More Coastal Georgia residents are choosing Park Springs for many reasons. Read on for their stories.
When the last big hurricane threatened her Skidaway Island neighborhood with high winds and rising floodwaters, Park Springs Member Beverly W. finally decided she’d had enough. “Our daughter in Marietta, GA had been urging us to move closer to her,” Beverly says. “So, after the hurricane, my husband and I talked and we came to the conclusion that it was time to get off the water and look for communities further inland near the Atlanta area.”
Their search for a new home brought them straight to the Life Plan Community of Park Springs in Stone Mountain, GA because they had friends who had already moved there. “Our friends who had moved to Park Springs loved it,” Beverly says. “So, we came and visited and decided it was great for us, too.”
Over the past two years, Beverly and her husband have grown to love their new lifestyle on the beautiful 61-acre campus with its winding walking paths, commanding views of Stone Mountain, six distinctive dining venues, a Wellness Clinic, and over 50+ clubs and amenities.
“We like the people,” Beverly says. “The food is very good, and we have nice accommodations here in the Villas.” The two championship golf courses which are accessed through a private entrance to Stone Mountain Park were also a big draw. “My husband is an avid golfer,” says Beverly. “He plays as much as he can. So, golf here is a big plus for him.”
Beverly has the opportunity to enjoy her favorite game here, too. “I love mahjong,” Beverly says. “We have a great mahjong group here that has grown tremendously. I really enjoy it.”
With a dedicated team at Park Springs that helped them coordinate every step of their move, Beverly says their transition from the coast was quite smooth.
“We’re so glad we made the move when we did,” she says.
Another Park Springs Member, Ken W. also moved from the coastal Savannah area several years ago. “We lived at The Landings in Savannah for 25 years and we loved it,” Ken says. “But my wife and I thought, we are getting older and we didn’t want to have to cook, and do yard work, and housework.”
When Ken learned about the maintenance-free homes at Park Springs, he knew that he had found a community that would give him the lifestyle he’d been looking for. “What I like most about living here is I don’t have to worry about the house or the yard,” Ken says. “I don’t have to do anything. I can do what I want. If I want to go play pickle, I can. Park Springs gives me lots of free time to do the things I love. It’s a great lifestyle.”
With all that free time, Ken has developed a variety of new interests and hobbies that keep him busy all week. “I’m on the Sales and Marketing Committee and I’m very involved in Petanque. I gather with the group here on Saturday mornings to play. I also play water volleyball three times a week,. I had never heard of it before but I love it now.”
Ken says some other deciding factors in their move were: “We already knew people from Savannah that lived here, we loved the campus layout, and we loved the Villas.”
Another big influence in their decision was the price point. “Park Springs is very price-competitive compared to other places,” says Ken. “We get a $700 dining allowance; nothing like that at other places we looked. So, from the standpoint of cost, we felt Park Springs is very good.”
The Continuum of Care and the focus on wellness were also important. “Another major factor in our decision to move here was Cobblestone and Pebblebrook [ Assisted Living and Memory Care facilities],” Ken says. It gives us peace of mind to know that the continuum of care is there if we need it.”
“We also love having the Wellness Clinic on campus. It’s easy to get in touch with the doctors in the wellness clinic. We love Dr. Khan and Dr. Footman. They are so great. It’s so nice to have this clinic right here on campus.”
