Focus on Wellness: Park Springs Members ‘Adopt’ THE Park

Park-Springs-ParkOn September 17, from 3-5PM, Park Springs Members, friends and family are invited to join Burrelle S. Meeks and The Dream Team for the Initial Park Revitalizing Work Day and get THE Park, a green space located in the heart of the Park Springs retirement community looking great for fall and into winter.

The overall official goal of The Dream Team is: “To beautify THE Park so that the garden will attract birds and butterflies, as well as provide an inviting area in which to socialize or find solitude.”

Participants will be asked to assist with clipping, pruning and refurbishing, and Dr. Meeks has invited Park Springs Members to “come with your gloves if you want to work, and come with a smile if you want to cheer us on!”

Doing yard work can be quite a workout: when gardening, people can use all the major muscle groups. September is the perfect time to get outside and ‘rake in’ the health benefits – and create a fresh new look for THE Park.

This workday will hopefully become a biannual event, taking place in the fall and spring.

“This time, in order to attract lots of birds and butterflies, we will be planting blueberry bushes, lantana plants, and a bunch of daffodil bulbs. Jim Schneeberger, Park Springs’ Executive Director, will make sure that there will be lots of water, and that participating volunteers will all get a special “Whistle While You Work / OUT IN THE PARK” T-shirt,” says Dr. Meeks.

“We’re hoping that at least 20 Park Springs garden enthusiasts will show up for this fun afternoon on September 17.”
