12 May Senior Housing News: Park Springs ‘Bubbled’ By Having Staff Live On Site
Senior Housing News interviewed Isakson Living COO Donna Moore for an article on senior living providers creating staffing “bubbles” at their communities in order to better care for residents, limit interaction from the outside and reduce the risk to staff of exposure to the coronavirus.
By mid-March, it became clear to Moore that the best way to protect the members at Park Springs was to limit interaction and secure facilities. She asked Park Springs employees to live on the 61-acre campus for up to four weeks, and 60 immediately volunteered – before any of them knew what it meant for them logistically or how they would be compensated for their efforts. After an initial commitment of two to four weeks, 90% of the initial volunteers signed on for extensions, and more workers joined them.
“It is exhausting. It is laborious. It is exhilarating. It’s all of those things, but we have built such an amazing camaraderie and we take care of each other,” she said.
