Meet the Members: Dave Riggs

Dave Riggs loves music. In fact, he moved to Park Springs in 2008, with over 4,000 records in his collection. He discovered his passion for records when he was in high school. During his college years, he worked at a local radio station during his summer breaks. He dreamed of becoming a disc jockey one day, but later pursued a career in television journalism.

When he retired, he produced programs for “Big Band Jump,” a syndicated radio program hosted by Don Kennedy, who had been host of the long-running Atlanta children’s TV show “The Popeye Club.” He began researching stories that made the music interesting for listeners.

When he moved to Park Springs, he took his storytelling with him and in May 2009, started the program that became Vintage Vinyl. Members gathered in the Pub to enjoy songs from the ’20’s to ’50’s while learning the stories behind the music. Today, the event is still held on the second Friday of the month, with each gathering showcasing a different theme of music. Whether it’s college fight songs or the Swing Era, overflowing crowds can be found dancing in the aisles to that month’s music.
