July 7, 2025 Park Springs Butterfly Garden Named a Pollinator Habitat
Monarchs Across Georgia has officially certified The Park Springs Butterfly Garden as a Pollinator Habitat. With the assistance of Associate Executive Director, Rafael Estrada and Maintenance Director, Jose Pliego, and with guidance of local and regional Master Gardeners, the Park Springs Green Team Butterfly Garden Committee, Mel Tockman, Coordinator selected flowers and shrubs/trees native to our region that bloom in each spring, summer and fall growing season supporting pollinating species throughout their life cycle. In the words of Ecology Professor Douglas Tallamy, “By encouraging growth of plants that evolved with our local animal communities as the foundation of our landscapes, we may be able to save much of our biodiversity from extinction….Increasing the percentage of natives in suburbia is a grassroots solution to the extinction crisis….As gardeners and stewards of our land, we have never been so empowered-and the ecological stakes have never been so high.”
Pollinator Habitat Certification gives all at Park Springs a sense of satisfaction that we are helping the environment. The opportunity of Park Springs Butterfly Garden Certification provides an opportunity to bring media attention and state recognition for our work to surround the Park Springs community with a naturally stable, biodiverse ecology.
