Les Carter was 78 years when he started playing golf after moving to Park Springs, Atlanta’s premier retirement community located at the foot of Stone Mountain. Today, 12 years later, Mr. Carter is the Member Liaison for the Park Springs Golf Association. On average, some 12 to 14 Park Springs Members play golf year-round – practically in their back yard.

Stone Mountain Golf Club’s two courses, Stonemont and Lakemont, wind around Stone Mountain Lake. They offer breathtaking views and wonderful, natural rock formations that make any round of golf a pure delight.

“We put out a sign-up sheet every Sunday for three tee times on Tuesdays, and have recently added two more tee times on Thursdays. That way, we know how many players to expect,” says Mr. Carter. “We usually end up with two to three foursomes, mostly regulars.”

Most of the time, the Park Springs golfers play at the Stone Mountain Golf Club, though they play other courses as well, including Mystery Valley in DeKalb County.

“The key to our front door also opens the lock to the private gate connecting the Park Springs campus with Stone Mountain Park. We just hop on a golf cart, drive over and start playing – either 9 or 18 holes,” notes Mr. Carter. “Three or four of us are in our nineties, but you’d be surprised by the quality of our game!”

“Being so close to premier golf courses is yet another element of the resort lifestyle at Park Springs,” says Kevin Isakson, Director of Marketing and Sales at Isakson Living, the owner and operator of Park Springs. “Where else in the Atlanta area can you find golf in your backyard, combined with first-class dining, superior healthcare and wellness services, and a great staff?”

Stone Mountain Golf Club is fully staffed with trained PGA professionals and a head golf instructor who provide top-flight instruction, precision club fitting, and expert guidance.
