Park Springs: Snow? – ‘sNo Problem!

“This week, the entire South was hit hard by a severe snow and ice storm – but thanks to proper advance planning, our great staff at Park Springs CCRC, creative leadership and flexibility on the part of the Members, February 12, when most of the severe weather hit Atlanta, was an excellent day, considering!” notes Mike Wooldridge, Executive Director of Park Springs, Atlanta’s premier retirement community.

“We were so fortunate that in addition to Debra Morgan, Healthcare Administrator and Donna Howson, Director of Nursing, and other Health Center staff who committed to spend the night, additional cooks, servers, and a number of the Cobblestone Health Center staff did make it in to work during the day, even though the roads were treacherous. That’s what I call true dedication to our Members!” says Mr. Wooldridge.

A point of pride: Everybody at Cobblestone enjoyed all their regular meals. There were enough staff members who were able to either spend the night or work double shifts in order to cover most areas in the Health Center.

“Michael Davis, Cobblestone’s Dietary Manager drove to work at 1 AM and slept in his office. He cooked all of the meals himself. We had only one Dietary aide make it to work, so Margo Witteveen, our Dietitian who spent the night, together with Ginger Hansborough and our Accounting Staff, helped serve the meals, and the smiles!” according to Mr. Wooldridge.

Park Springs’ staff also served meals to 220 Members who live throughout Park Springs beautiful 54-acre campus, either by take out or via delivery. Jim Schneeberger, Park Springs’s Food & Beverage Director and his staff in the Park Springs kitchens did a great job.

During the day, the some villas, houses, and the cottages became really difficult to get to. By 4 PM people could not get up the hill to the guard gate. Security had to drive out the back gate and around to get there. Four Plant Operations employees and Raymond Previto made all of the deliveries.

Most everyone who spent Tuesday night also spent Wednesday night, plus a few more staff members who were able to come in later – and everybody is looking forward to a big thaw on Thursday and Friday.

“I am so proud of our great team here at Park Springs,” says Mr. Wooldridge. Our employees made every effort to take care of our Members’ needs, even during this crazy weather, and I am thankful for our staff. Thanks go also to our Members, who were very understanding of the situation, and appreciative of our staff.”
