15 Jun FOX5 Atlanta: Staff at Georgia senior campus head home after lockdown
FOX5 Atlanta Health Reporter Beth Galvin, followed up with Donna Moore to discuss the emotions and plans surrounding the 75 Park Springs healthcare heroes who are finally returning home after 75 days of locking-in with their residents to prevent the spread of COVID-19.
“It feels exciting,” Moore says. “It feels like we’re ready, like we have done what we set out to do. But, it’s also a little bittersweet, because we’ve become a family in here, and I don’t want to let that go.”
As the novel coronavirus ravaged nursing homes on the West Coast, Moore knew Park Springs had to act aggressively by reducing human traffic in order to protect their members. That meant no visitors and asking for volunteers to stay on campus for two weeks or possibly a month. Two-and-a-half months later, the 75 hero volunteers are finally going home.
“I’m sure I will cry when I see my children on Saturday,” Moore says. “But, I think the impact is bigger than that. I think it’s changed me as a leader. The memo can wait, connecting with our employees, connecting with our members can’t.”
